Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-11-17 Summary: Good Drill Press For The Money ... I have had this machine for about a year now. I bought it after thoroughly researching models in this price range +/- 50%. This press has proven itself to be accurate and versatile. As others have pointed out, there is virtually no runout. Build quality is good, but not perfect. (For example, there was a rattle to quiet.) It has plenty of travel (just under 4") for the wide range of tasks I have given it, and ample power, even for large hole saws. The large rectangular table is a pleasure to use and was fairly easy ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-05-13 Summary: An 11 out of 10. ... I was sad when my old drill press was killed by a combination of a fire and having a load of lumber delivered on top of it. I had been saving up for this one for a while. It puts my old one to shame. No noticeable vibration or run out. There is nearly 4 inches of quill travel. The table has three axes of freedom. It can rotate out of the way around the column. It can tip side to side, indexed at common angles, with a scale, although you will need to use the included hex wrench. It also tips front to back on dual trunions ...more
[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-03-28 Summary: Regular Guy ... The assembly instructions were clear and easy to use. The drill press is excellent with plenty of power and table area. The laser is a gimick; and could use a focus adjustment to sharpen the lines. Be prepared to build a stabilizing base out of plywood if you don't anchor it to the floor. Definitely worth the money...:) ...more
[4] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-03-13 Summary: Could be better, but certainly does the job ... I must corroborate what other reviewers have said here: the drill is very nice, but not perfect. It could be smoother, more powerful, and better integrated, but it gets the job done. The table is versatile and more than enough for most uses. The adjustment is as smooth as one would expect it to be, and the press itself is easy to use. The belts are a little noisy but not excessively so-- who wants a silent drill, after all? One area of disappointment for me is the lack of integration between all the different electrical ...more

[2] ... Review | Delta's marketing this drill press as one made finally for woodworkers instead of machinists, and it's welcome change. The changes in the table alone are worth trumpeting: It's 14 by 18 inches, has T-slots for a miter gauge, a removable insert and tilts 0 to 45 degrees forward – yes, forward -- and 0 to 90-degrees both left and right with detents at 0, 45 and 90-degrees. The forward-tilting table is quite a coup for woodworkers, offering so much more control and versatility, and even better, combined...more

Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-01-19 Summary: Very pleased with price/performance ... Mine arrived looking like it had fallen off the back of the truck at high speed. I even took exhaustive pictures out of concern that it had been damaged. NOPE. Everything was in perfect shape even tho the packing was falling out in some places. Don't expect "professional grade", but this press impressed me as solid workhorse and, if you read the instructions (GASP!) and follow them, all the "little issues" are clearly addressed, the most annoying is that the table binds a bit as you lower it. No problems with spindle ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-06-23 Summary: Great drill, but needs better packing for shipping ... I received this unit with the box partially open and the bands on one side of the box. The movable workplate was 1/2 out of the box. The shipper, FedEx had added some tape to the box to keep it together. I added more tape before I took it home from work where I had it delivered. Once I looked in the box, everything looked complete and fine and it wasn't until I lifted the power head out of the box to install when I noticed a crack up the entire corner of the plastic pulley cover. Since it doesn't show or affect the ...more
[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-01-20 Summary: Not bad, for the price ... This is my first drill press and I purchased it for woodworking. As cost is an issue, I swallowed my fears about Black and Decker owning Delta (and selling the same model for more $$$) and bought the DP300L. Overall, it is a decent machine. Mine came without one set screw for the head so I can't tighen it down real well. Assembly otherwise went okay - even considering Delta's poorly pictured manuals. Once assembled, the drill so far seems to operate smoothly. The one piece of wood I drilled (at top speed) worked well. ...more
[4] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-06-29 Summary: A mid-grade drill press you'll likely be happy with ... I've been using drill presses of various type for years but never one "laser guided" - I thought that was just for missles! After aiming the thing twice and giving more thought to the "why" I was more concerned with getting the beams parallel and then later adjusting where they crossed and I am now satified they work consistently. I would prefer the lasers were powered off the cord and came on with the switch than being separately battery powered so I wouldn't have to rely on memory to turn it off or a drawer full ...more

[2] ... Review | We were taken totally by surprise when we first saw Delta's new DP300L, because it's got the features of the big boys but the footprint and the price tag of your basic benchtop drill press. It starts out simply enough, with a six-inch distance between chuck center and column, letting you drill the center of a 12-inch board. The quill travel is a decent 2-3/8 inches, plenty for any drilling or sanding job. There's a wide range of spindle speeds to use for whatever material you're drilling, be it wood,...more
